The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon
Unlike anything we’ve read thus far, Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay was quite the novelty to our book club! A comic book in the form of a novel, this cinematic work of literature scratches that itch that yearns for good old-fashioned adventure.
It’s got a little of everything; 1930s New York City, superhero comic books, celebrity, romance, LGBT motifs, military combat, aaaaand magicians 🃏🎩 😯 It is 700 pages of words that will transport you to a different world.
However, if we are being honest here, we all found it to be quite a difficult read. Most of us switching to the audio version to be able to get through the story. Chabon’s prose may be a bit beyond the grasp, but it is a challenge worth enduring for the incredible story he has fabricated for us. Really, quite the amazing read.
